Family Literacy Night

Fairview Community School is holding a Family Literacy Night on Tuesday, April 16th from 6 - 8. Activities will include storytelling, poetry reading, board games, karaoke and reading. Free books will be given away to students and there will be free snacks. Join us for an evening of fun and celebration of literacy!

Volunteers needed!

Do you have an hour or two you could spare each week? I'm looking for some help with shelving books in the library. The students and staff at Fairview usually sign out about 1000 - 1200 books each month and I don't always have time to put all of them away! All you need to know is your alphabet and decimal numbers. Please let me know if you have some free time!

Also, starting mid-June, I need a few volunteers to help "shelf-read" the library to get it in perfect order for next school year. We need to check most of the about 13,000 books in the library to make sure they are in the right spot so that teachers and students can find them when they need them. Again, all you need to know is your alphabet and decimal numbers. Please let me know if you have some time to help out!

School Library Website

I'm working on my Master's in Elementary Education through the University of Alberta. I'm just researching my final paper about designing a school library website. I'm getting very excited about all the possibilities a school library website has to offer and I am looking forward to starting one to benefit all of the students and staff at Fairview. I will be finished this course in the middle of April and will start building the website after that. It will be a long term project and I would love to have student and staff input. Let me know if you have suggestions of what you would like to see included!
